What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art, an organized sport, and a means of self-defence. BJJ’s focus is on ground fighting and grappling with the aim of controlling one’s opponent through the use of leverage and technique. Techniques applied range from a variety of chokeholds and joint-locks. Although striking is not taught as part of BJJ, the techniques have great applicability in defending one’s self against a striking opponent.
